For the final project in the 3D World Class I decided to make a small Chess World, where the land was the chess board and the pieces would act as building structures mixed in with other architectural structures, such as a barn and a home. It’s essentially supposed to look like a casual area where people could be seen living in. My original idea was to create a more cloud land type of world, but since I decided to go with chess I decided to float the chess board and somewhat mix both ideas, hence why the board is so high up in the sky and there are clouds around some of the corners. I added smaller details and seating areas to create a more lifelike environment, and mixed aspects of modern buildings and older, sort of medieval era buildings to ultimately create this world. I added the volcano because it just seemed like it would overall fit with the vibe of the lighting and area and I wanted to try out the fire particle effects that I saw. The two large beings represent the players in this case which could also act as “controllers” of the world. I used scarecrows to depict them for now, but if I had more time I would’ve liked to be more creative with the characters and their positioning or poses. We explored limitations and benefits during class. I considered the limitations of the world and tried to improve it in my own world. One of my main problems was the amount of walking necessary to travel between areas, so I made a smaller world.
This world was majorly inspired by the amount of chess I play with my family and friends. Chess itself already easily had a building structure so I just used that as inspiration to build a small world out of it. The layout of the pieces is one of the most common openings that majority of people play, especially my younger brother, with the two kings' pawns moved forward and all four horses moved as well. If I were to redo this world I would have tried to emphasize more of the technical or battle aspect of chess, since this world is really peaceful right now.
