For this project, I created a 3D underwater village for fish. This was my first time working on unity, so this project definitely pushed me to be patient and experimental. I wanted to create a space that felt alive and colorful. The world includes cottage like houses, rocky pathways, vivid coral, and flowy seaweeds. I used bright colors like teals, purples, oranges, and yellows to create a dreamlike and otherworldly feel. The textures mimic elements found in real marine environments. I found joy in the little details. I even included a small river with lily pads and a kayak. The player travels through the environment slowly to imitate the feeling of the resistance
when swimming in water. I’ve always been fascinated by how animals interact with their environment. When I was younger I used to collect rollie pollies or pill bugs and create a small cardboard home for them. I wanted to imagine what it looked like for fish if they had their own organized society, similar to humans. My motivation also came from games and movies I would play and watch as a kid. I was inspired by movies like Spongebob, Finding Nemo, Ponyo and games like Minecraft. All of which bring my personality to life. I enjoyed the process of sculpting, designing, and layering different materials to make the world feel three dimensional and alive. I’ve always felt a deep connection to the water. I grew up visiting rivers and beaches with my family, and I associate those memories with joy, imagination, and freedom. Water has always felt like a place of curiosity and comfort to me both powerful and peaceful. I wanted this world to reflect that same feeling. My hope is that viewers start to wonder what life might really be like for the creatures beneath the waves.
