Before this class, I had never worked with a digital 3D medium, all the art I made had been contained by the view I drew it from, so this was a very new experience and produced many challenges that I did not expect and had to overcome. Due to my lack of knowledge in this area I decided to explore a topic I had previously explored, Femininity, from its mainstream image to how it relates to me. Last year, I began identifying as a girl, after about 3 years of feeling like I didn't fit a traditional femininity. I had a new found connection with femininity that deviated from the mainstream view of femininity. What femininity meant to me was a much deeper and darker image than what I had previously believed, my version of femininity had been tainted by performance femininity and caused pain. When femininity was a docile and meek trait that represented womanhood, I felt a connection, but when it represented deeper strength and pain I could relate to it, and I could feel like a woman again. In my world I tried to show my journey with the idea of femininity, starting with a mainstream view that included pinks, fruits, wine and normalcy, the superficial traits I felt little connection to. However, as you travel through the world, you soon see a femininity that is the reaction to its mainstream view, with pills, syringes, cigarettes and a phone. All of the performative mainstream femininity has birthed an ugly, broken picture of femininity that connects more with pain than it does with gender. That is not to say that those who identify with a more traditional femininity are wrong, it is just not a true version of femininity to me. Overall, the world is supposed to represent preformative femininity becoming distorted and the feelings that lie under the surface.
